Welcome to Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB), an engaging statewide reading initiative proudly supported by the Oregon Association of School Libraries, in collaboration with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Our program invites students, from 3rd to 5th grade, irrespective of their reading abilities, to embark on a literary journey filled with high-quality literature, showcasing a diverse range of literary styles and perspectives.
OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.
Mark Your Calendars: Battles will take place on the following days at Ainsworth.
- February 6th 2024 – 5th grade battles
- February 7th 2024 – 4th grade battles
- February 8th 2024 – 3rd grade battles

How to Get Started
- My Child Wants to Participate! Now What?: It’s time to start reading! Explore the OBOB book list here.
- Form a Team: Begin forming teams of four participants. Kids can create their own teams or team up with parents and/or teachers.
- Registration Deadline: Each child must be registered by November 1st, 2023. Find registration details and more information here.
- Team Building: Teams should meet to assign books, come up with a creative team name, discuss books and practice for the battle.

- New to OBOB? Discover More: We’re hosting an informational session for families new to OBOB November 27, 2023 at 6:00 pm via Zoom. This is geared towards families who are new to OBOB but everyone is welcome.
